About

Hi, I’m James a backend engineer based in Nairobi.

I mostly build things with Python, Django, and Postgres, which is a fancy way of saying I write bugs and then blog about what they taught me. If you’ve read anything here, you’ve probably noticed the pattern: something breaks in production, I panic, I learn something genuinely useful, and then I pretend I knew it all along.

I’m particularly fond of the unglamorous corners of software transactions, concurrency, the stuff that works perfectly on my machine and mysteriously falls apart the moment two users show up at once.

When I’m not staring at a stack trace, I’m reading about databases or playing City Skylines 2 for fun, which I’m told is not normal.

Say hi. I’m friendlier than my commit messages suggest.
